This is one of the most common questions we hear from homeowners. Roof replacement is a big project, and it’s natural to wonder if you should stick around or make other plans while the crew works.
The short answer: No, you don’t have to be home—but it’s a personal choice.
What to Expect During Roof Replacement
- Noise: Hammering, nail guns, and constant movement on the roof can be loud. If you work from home, it may be distracting.
- Access: Our crew may need access to your driveway, yard, and sometimes your attic. We’ll coordinate this with you beforehand.
- Safety: For families with kids or pets, it may be easier to spend the day elsewhere to avoid the busy work zone.
Benefits of Staying Home
- You’re available if we need to confirm details or answer questions.
- You can monitor progress firsthand.
Benefits of Leaving
- You avoid the noise and activity.
- Your children and pets stay stress-free.
- You return home at the end of the day to see major progress – sometimes a fully finished roof.
FAQ: Do I Need to Be Home During the Roof Replacement?
Q: Will I need to let workers inside my home?
A: In most cases, no. Occasionally, we may need brief attic access for ventilation checks or leak investigations, but we’ll schedule that with you.
Q: Can I run errands or go to work while the crew is here?
A: Absolutely. Many homeowners aren’t home during the replacement at all. We’ll stay in contact by phone if anything comes up.
Q: Is it safe for my pets to stay inside?
A: Yes, but keep in mind the noise may make them anxious. If your pets are sensitive, consider boarding them or having them stay with a friend for the day.
Q: How long will the project take?
A: Most residential roof replacements in Gainesville are completed in 1–2 days, depending on the size and material.
